Ivan Bernal Palli

Ivan has been working with traditional wet darkroom photography for over 10 years. He initially studied in Barcelona and since then he has further developed his practice through printing and experimenting with different techniques.

For the last four years Ivan has been working with the Lith prinitng process which uses traditional black and white photographic paper and a special developer to produce colourful images with dark gritty shaddows, delicate smooth highlights and midtones. The results differ depending on the paper and other factors offering a wide range of options for interpreting an image.

Ivan’s work is influenced by the Pictoralism movement from teh late 19th and early 20th Century. His work is very atmospheric, highly focused in aesthetics and his photographs have a unique dream like quality about them. His work has been exhibited in several exhibitions and galleries locally as well as abroad including the Czech Republic and the USA. Ivan’s latest series is a collection of images taken at Corstorphine Hill in Edinburgh, a project that he has been expanding upon over the past five years. This body of work ‘Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh 2010 – 2015’ was first exhibited in a recent solo exhibition at Coburg House Studios in Leith and we are delighted to be presenting the next installment of this series at Alpha Art.
